Traveller’s TalesAlice Jovanée (she/her) is a commerce writer, and she has been writing about gaming and tech since 2005. Prior to Polygon, she worked at publications such as The Verge.Regardless of how you feel about the current season of Rings of Power, if you’re looking for another way to satiate your Tolkien love you’ll definitely want to check out the current catalog of free games available to Amazon Prime members. Earlier this month, both Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition, and Lego The Lord of the Rings were made available to Amazon Prime members for free through Sept. 30. However, you can now also pick up Lego The Hobbit for free through Oct. 23. Just head to the corresponding Prime Gaming page and you’ll be presented with a code that you can redeem on GOG.com for a free copy of each. For your convenience, we’ve linked out to both titles below, along with some of the other excellent complementary titles you can get with your Amazon Prime subscription this month.Lego The Hobbit Traveller’s TalesSubstituting the entire cast of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with Lego Minifigs provides a substantial improvement not just to the comic relief but its epic set pieces as well. Traveller’s Tales Lego The Hobbit presents an abridged version of Frodo’s quest that is, in my opinion, more enjoyable than the seven-hour-long trilogy. Lego The Hobbit is currently listed for $19.99 on Steam, but Amazon Prime members can pick up this title fro free through Oct. 23. While this free version of the game doesn’t feature any of the additional characters or items included as post-launch DLC, you’ll still have the opportunity to unlock and play almost 100 characters in single-player or local co-op.Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition WB GamesThe original open-world Lord of the Rings game, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is an easy recommendation for fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise or similar immersive sims. This original story set before the events of The Lord of the Rings features a long list of talented voice actors, including Matthew Mercer, Troy Baker, Jennifer Hale, John DiMaggio, and more. This 2014 title may be a bit long in the tooth, but the gameplay remains solid, and its lower system requirements make it easy to enjoy on the Steam Deck (via a third-party launcher) or other handheld gaming PCs. The GOTY edition comes packaged with all of the post-launch DLC and currently goes for $19.99 on Steam, but Prime Members can add this title to their GOG library for free.Lego The Lord of the RingsSomehow, the developers at Traveller’s Tales have managed to inject the trademark wit and charm of its Lego titles into a franchise that takes itself almost too seriously. Lego The Lord of the Rings offers the familiar co-op friendly gameplay of the Lego games laid on top of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, complete with voice work from the original cast. This title currently costs $19.99 on Steam, but Amazon Prime members can pick up this game for free.Besides the three outstanding titles based on the Tolkien franchise, Amazon Prime members can snag up to two dozen other free games right now. We encourage you to check out the full list of titles, but we’ve picked out a handful we think you should definitely add to your library before they’re gone.More great free gamesArcade Paradise (expires Nov. 27)Borderlands 2 (expires Nov. 27)Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (expires Dec. 4)Card Shark (expires Sep. 25)En Garde! Epic Games has been giving away free games every week for years now, which has apparently been going well – but the store’s exclusives haven’t done so well.Valve doesn’t exactly run a monopoly when it comes to buying digital games, but for the most part everyone knows that Steam is the defacto place to buy your PC games. Storefronts like GOG and Itch.io have their own niches, but Steam is still the place to be for most PC games, even if it is quite flawed. Then, in 2018, Epic Games decided it wanted a piece of the pie and opened up its own store, and it didn’t do so without controversy, as many PC gamers were not a fan of it right off the bat. Six years on, the store is still around, but even still many don’t like it.To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage cookie setting…
Read moreIt’s been previously claimed that Crash Bandicoot 5 was in the works, and now a new report has shed some very purple light on the game.Back in July, a developer that previously worked at Crash Bandicoot 4: About Time developer Toys For Bob claimed that Crash 5 was in the works, though didn’t share all that much about it. They did note that some day people will hear about it and “it’s gonna break hearts,” and that certainly feels accurate, as in a new video from Liam Robertson at Did You Know Gaming, some details have been shared about the cancelled Crash 5 – the most notable aspect of the game being that it would have been a crossover with none other than the bandicoot’s PS1 co-star Spyro the Dragon. To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage cookie settings Yeah, right off …

Read moreAvatar: The Last Airbender is a really beloved series, and with a new animated film on the way, the newest actor behind Katara is hoping she doesn’t mess up.A sequel film to the original Avatar series has been in the works for a little while now, and back in April the voice cast was revealed, which for the part has some lesser-known names, though it did also attach Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista in an unnamed villain role. That selection of new cast is taking over the roles of beloved characters like Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph, and in a recent interview with Collider, Jessica Matten, the new voice behind Katara, spoke of what it’s been like taking over the role, getting to know the rest of the cast, and the weight she feels over joining such a beloved series. To see this content…
Read moreAlan Wake 2 has one more piece of DLC due out this October, and working on the soundtrack has left the game’s composer a bit moist. When Remedy announced that it would be releasing a couple of pieces of DLC for Alan Wake 2, I was ecstatic considering just how good that game was. The first piece, which was a mini-anthology type thing about a couple of characters from the base game (and one not so much from the base game that I won’t spoil for those that haven’t got to it yet). The second and final piece of DLC, titled The Lake House, is due out next month sometime, and the game’s composer Petri Alanko has shared that working on it has left him “crying constantly”, though of course didn’t spill any beans on what the DLC will be like.To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage c…

Read moreThe ranch sign in the original Silent Hill 2 is iconic for its tonally off use of Comic Sans, but the remake changed it – apart from where it didn’t.Early on in Silent Hill 2, you come across Silent Hill Ranch, which in the HD Collection version uses the much memed upon font Comic Sans. Of course, way back then, Comic Sans being the meme font wasn’t as much of a thing, it was only in the years after where people made jokes with and about it, but it’s become a sticking point for Silent Hill 2 fans all the same. It’s no surprise that one of the first things fans might do, including deals wizard Wario64, is check to see what the fan looks like, only to find… that the sign just looks pretty regular. No Comic Sans, no funny other font, just a regular looking ranch sign that could believa…

In a recent bonus video, Panettiere, who plays Sam Giddings in the game, said “Until Dawn has been around for years and years now. I think people love it. And the fact that they are going further with it says that there’s a want for it.” This could potentially be in reference to the live-action film adaptation in the works, though the phrasing is obviously a bit particular there whic…
